Recovering Vista System without DVD – Dell Laptops

As You probably already know – Ctrl+F11 doesn’t work. So what choice if You don’t have a recovery DVD? I solve this problem after several hours of trials…

What You need:

1. Untouched recovery partition
2. Hiren’s Boot CD 10.4 or higher
3. Any other DVD with Vista System (which You cannot install, because its illegal, right?)

What to do?

1. Boot from Hiren’s Boot CD, choose option Windows XP Live
2. Format system partition – DO NOT TOUCH Recovery Partition
3. Explore Recovery Partition and find big file with extension WIM
4. With 7-ZIP (already in Windows XP Live) extract this file to current partition – it’ll take a time – DO NOT OPEN THIS FILE – EXTRACT FROM CONTEXT MENU – otherways You run out of memory.
5. Inside You should have one file and one folder. Content of this folder (catalog Windows, Program Files and others) copy directly to system drive (C:)
6. Next restart system and boot from other DVD Vista system – do not install – Choose option Repair System and, on the and choose Repair StartUp files.
7. After that You restart Your computer, boot from hard drive and finish installation…
8. NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE YOUR BACKUP FOR NEXT TIME

You still have legal system without buying new DVD’s from Dell
